SAS and the SkyTeam Alliance
Airline alliances have gotten complicated with all the partnerships and codeshares flying around. As someone who has flown SAS extensively across Scandinavia and used SkyTeam benefits to connect through Copenhagen to three different continents, I learned everything there is to know about how this partnership actually works. Today, I will share it all with you.

Scandinavian Airlines – SAS – is the flag carrier for Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Founded in 1946, it serves destinations across Europe, North America, and Asia. Their partnership with SkyTeam has made connecting through Copenhagen or Stockholm to the rest of the world much easier for travelers.
What is SkyTeam?
SkyTeam is an association of airlines coordinating services to enhance passenger experience. Established in 2000, it now includes 19 member airlines covering over 1,150 destinations in more than 175 countries. Members share lounges, coordinate schedules, and offer reciprocal frequent flyer benefits.
Probably should have led with this, honestly: the practical benefit is that your status and miles transfer across all member airlines. Thats what makes alliances so valuable to frequent travelers.
SAS and SkyTeam Partnership
In 2013, SAS partnered with SkyTeam as an affiliate member. This expanded their global reach significantly. As a passenger, I gained access to more destinations, smoother transfers, and enhanced services. Being part of SkyTeam means SAS passengers earn and redeem miles across member airlines – improving flexibility considerably.
Frequent Flyer Benefits
SAS EuroBonus members enjoy benefits from SkyTeam partners. I earn EuroBonus points on Delta flights, redeem them for Korean Air tickets, and access Air France lounges – all through the same membership. Elite members get priority boarding, extra baggage allowance, and lounge access regardless of which SkyTeam airline theyre flying.
Shared Lounges and Facilities
SkyTeam lounges offer comfortable spaces for travelers with status. Im apparently the type who arrives at airports early just to use the lounge, and having access across 19 airlines makes that practical on almost any routing. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, refreshments, and workstations – useful for long layovers.
Seamless Connection Services
SAS and SkyTeam coordinate schedules for better connections. This minimizes layover times and missed connections. Baggage handling is streamlined through SkyTeams systems. Ive connected through Amsterdam on a tight 55-minute layover and my bag made it – that kind of coordination matters.
Sustainability Efforts
SAS has committed to reducing environmental impact, focusing on fuel efficiency and sustainable practices. Being part of SkyTeam helps SAS share and adopt best practices across the alliance. Thats what makes these partnerships valuable beyond just passenger convenience.
In-Flight Experience
SAS offers multiple classes. Business class provides solid amenities and decent food – not the absolute best in the industry but consistently good. Economy focuses on comfort and affordability. Premium economy offers extra legroom for those of us with long legs. In-flight entertainment includes movies, TV shows, and music to pass the time.
Global Connectivity
SAS partnership with SkyTeam opens routes that would otherwise require separate bookings. It connects Northern Europe with the rest of the world efficiently. Passengers enjoy the combined network of SAS and SkyTeam airlines, making global travel more accessible from Scandinavian cities.
Vision for the Future
SAS aims to continue growing with sustainability as a core focus. Collaboration with SkyTeam plays an essential role. The partnership allows SAS to leverage collective expertise and resources they couldnt access alone. The future holds interesting prospects for SAS and its passengers through this alliance.
